In December of 2018, I had the opportunity to return to the beautiful country of Bhutan in partnership with MyBhutan. Unlike my past visit to Bhutan, I returned with a focus on the rural communities and portrait photography. Specifically, in the village of Merak.

Merak is home to the Brokpa tribe, a group of Yak Herders who live a mostly disconnected life in mountains in the Eastern part of the country. To get to Merak, it was a 25 hour drive from the airport in Paro and one of the most exciting journeys I had ever been on.

I was able to spend eight days getting close with the tribespeople and photographing them and their way of life. The following photos are of the Brokpa tribe as well as other Bhutanese people.
